you'll need:

6 tablespoons quick-cooking oats
2 tablespoons full cream milk powder (Nestle Nido)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ghee
1 small shallot
3 slices shelf-stable bacon
1/2 teaspoon honey or to taste

at home:

Combine oats, milk powder and salt in a small-sized zip-lock freezer bag.
Pack the remaining ingredients separately.

on the trail:

Bring 1/2 cup water to a boil.
Pour hot water into oat mixture; stir and let stand covered 1 minute.
Meanwhile, melt ghee in a frying pan over medium heat.
Add chopped onions and bacon.
Cook until onions are gold and soft.
Top oatmeal with onion and bacon mixture. Drizzle honey over and serve.
Variations: Replace honey with maple syrup.
