Route: Carbost – Fairy Pools – Bealach a Mhaim – Allt Dearg Mor

There are at least two reasons to visit Carbost during your trip to Skye. First, the Talisker whisky distillery is situated here. Second, you simply have to try local oysters. Established in 1981 by fisherman Kenny Bain, Oysters Shed is a family-run oyster farm. Since then they’ve expanded their business to a size of over 200,000 oysters.

After visiting a Talisker distillery classic tour, we have had a quick lunch at Oyster Shed.

We left Carbost and started our walk to the Fairy Pools, which are beautiful crystal-clear blue pools on the River Brittle. Soon we turned right to a single-track road that winds over the hill to the Glenbrittle.

We walked for 4.5 miles (7.2 km) until we saw the Fairy Pools car park on the right side of the road. We crossed the road to the opposite side and were impressed by the views opened up towards the Black Cuillin.

Once walked along the stream, we made a sharp left turn onto a small but distinct path towards Bealach a Mhaim. There was a good view back to Coire na Creiche, where the last battle between the MacDonalds and the Macleods was fought in 1601.
After passing Bealach a Mhaim, we took the path to the right down towards the Sligachan Hotel.
As we planned to reach the Bruach na Frithe next morning, we decided to pitch a tent near the small waterfalls, with a nice panoramic view of the Black Cuillin ridge.
